Blessings holds a BA degree in Public Administration from the University of Malawi, Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in Development Studies obtained from the Universities of Cambridge, UK and Mainz, Germany respectively.

Having joined the Department of Political and Administrative Studies as a Staff Associate in March 1996, Blessings Chinsinga has risen to the rank of Professor of Political Science specializing in Public Policy Analy­sis, Institutions and Development, Development Administration, Theories of Development, Political Economy of Development and African Politics both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

He has vast experience in conducting research and consultancy assignments in public, private and civil society sectors including training and capacity building assignments. His core areas of expertise and competence include decentralization and poverty reduction, governance and democracy, institutional and policy analysis, globalization and regional inte­gration, targeting in development interventions, human rights based approach­es to development, agriculture and rural development, and rural livelihoods and local level politics.

His skills, expertise and competence are further backed up by an impressive track record of publications especially in the areas of rural livelihoods, governance and institutional analysis, and policymaking. He is also the Deputy Director of Centre for Social Research. He used to coordinate an MA programme in Development Studies between 2006 and 2008 and also co­ordinated a five year collaborative Democracy Consolidation Project between the Department of Political and Administrative Studies, University of Malawi and the Department of Comparative Politics, University of Bergen, Norway.
